Spoken German

Speak German the way people in Germany do

You know the grammar but freeze in a real conversation? Spoken German with a teacher who lived in Germany for more than three years and used it every day — in shops, at work, with friends and on the road.

Na, alles klar bei dir?

Ja, passt! Und bei dir? Was machst du am Wochenende?

Mal schauen… vielleicht grillen wir. Kommst du mit?

This is what an ordinary conversation sounds like — and you'll get there too.

Sound familiar?

Why "school" German doesn't work in real life

I understand, but I can't speak

The words are in your head, but in a conversation they don't come together into sentences fast enough.

Too fast

Germans speak faster than the voices on textbook recordings and swallow half the sounds.

Straight from the textbook

Your phrases are correct but sound unnatural — nobody in Germany talks like that any more.
Textbook vs. real life

Same idea, two different phrases

We learn both: the standard language for exams and formal situations, and living speech for everything else.

Situation In the textbook In real life
How are you? Wie geht es Ihnen? Na, alles klar?
Asking for the bill Ich möchte bitte bezahlen. Zahlen, bitte!
Saying goodbye Auf Wiedersehen! Tschüss! Schönen Tag noch!
Agreeing Das ist in Ordnung. Passt! / Geht klar.
Didn't catch that Wie bitte? Können Sie das wiederholen? Sorry, nochmal?
What we'll practise

Situations that happen every day

  • Introductions, small talk, chatting with neighbours and colleagues
  • Shops, cafés, public transport, the post office and the bank
  • Doctors, pharmacies and booking an appointment (Termin)
  • Work: job interviews, calls, emails
  • Phone calls — the scariest part, and so the most important
  • Slang, colloquial shortcuts and regional differences

You do most of the talking

Lessons are built around your speech: dialogues, role plays, discussions.

Listening and pronunciation

Podcasts, videos and real recordings — we learn to understand fast speech.

Gentle correction

I don't interrupt — I note your mistakes and we go through them at the end, so you don't lose your flow.

Your topics

Work, hobbies, travel — we talk about what genuinely interests you.

In the trial lesson we'll assess your speaking level and find out what keeps you from speaking freely. Write to me and we'll find a time.
